Amy Ashworth joined LELG in August of 2006. She previously practiced intellectual property law at a mid-sized Richmond firm. For over seven years, intellectual property has been the focus of her practice.

Amy has a broad spectrum of experience with trademark clearance and prosecution before the USPTO, as well as in coordination with foreign counsel. She has filed a number of Madrid Protocol applications designating countries in Europe and the Far East. Identifying and protecting trademarks and copyrights has constituted a significant part of her practice.

Amy has successfully accomplished the goals of defending her clients' ownership of intellectual property assets, through various strategies including cease and desist demands, and infringement actions. She has also represented parties in Trademark Trial and Appeal Board proceedings. Amy has advised litigators in connection with trademark and copyright infringement and unfair competition suits in federal courts.

Amy's practice has encompassed the negotiation and drafting of software development and licensing agreements, trademark licensing, and due diligence in connection with the acquisition of intellectual property. Amy has worked with a wide range of clients, from start-up businesses and individual investors, to large corporations and their subsidiaries, as well as government institutions.

Amy is a graduate of Davidson College and the University of Richmond School of Law. At U of R Law School, Amy's distinctions included memberships on the Law Review and in the McNeil Law Society. Upon graduation in 1989, Amy served as law clerk to the Honorable Harry L. Carrico, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Virginia. In 1991, she entered private practice.

Amy's professional affiliations include the Greater Richmond Intellectual Property Law Association and the Intellectual Property Section of the Virginia State Bar.
