Melanie Holloway counsels clients on intellectual property protection, licensing, and enforcement. She has substantial experience with trademark risk assessment, registration, and maintenance, copyright matters, trade secret issues, and software and technology licenses. She has represented companies from a variety of industries, including electronics, green building, medical device, energy, food and beverage, manufacturing, retail, and higher education.

In addition to practicing law, Melanie is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Law and Director of Lawyering Skills IV at the University of Richmond School of Law where she created and teaches a skills-based course in Contract Drafting.

Before joining the Leading-Edge Law Group, Melanie managed multiple large U.S. and foreign trademark portfolios for publicly traded and privately held companies as an attorney with McGuireWoods LLP. She devoted a significant portion of her IP practice to transfers of intellectual property in corporate mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, and advised clients on advertising issues, including compliance with federal telemarketing legislation. She also assisted supply chain and sourcing departments with contract negotiation strategy and purchasing agreements.

Melanie was named a Virginia Rising Star by Super Lawyers Magazine in 2007 and 2010.  She is a former member of the Board of Governors for the Virginia State Bar's Intellectual Property Section and a past president of the Greater Richmond Intellectual Property Law Association.  She earned her law degree cum laude from the University of Richmond School of Law, where she was an Editor for the Richmond Law Review, and her undergraduate degree from Radford University.
